Lucie Gomperz was born in Vienna and was the youngest child of Benjamin Gomperz, a Jewish medical doctor. Rie's work has often been described as 'cosmopolitan'. She is best remembered for her bowl and bottle forms. Her pottery is displayed around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He is known for his abstract expression ceramic sculptures, which crossed the traditional divide between ceramics and fine art. While his early work was fired in electric and gas kilns, later in his career he primarily fired in the anagama kiln of Peter Callas, who had helped to introduce Japanese wood firing aesthetics in the United States. My personal favorite artist is Caravaggio. He was an Italian painter in Rome, his works focused on human emotion and physical body. I love this artists work because of the detail and emotion he places in it. I chose this artist because I believe if he was still here today, his works would continue to move society as it did back then.
